Madrid, NY—
Pamela Sperling Short, 64, of State Hwy 310, Madrid, died Sunday, June 5, 2016 at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, NY.
Pam is survived by her loving husband of nearly 20 years, William "Bill" Short. She was a loving mother to Rebecca Welt McCann and husband Jason of Ft. Polk, LA, Kassandra Welt Walsh and husband Kevin of Mooresville, NC, Ashton Elizabeth Short of Canton, Hannah Short Ellis and husband Matt of Schuylerville, NY and Samantha Claire Short of Burnt Hills, NY. She is also survived by her mother, Marguerite Sperling of Partridge Knoll, Canton; a brother, Mark Sperling and wife Pamela of Saranac Lake, NY; four grandchildren, Grady & Declan McCann, Teagan Rose Walsh and Braden Jay Ellis; a niece Carly Alison Morris of Denver, CO and a nephew, Adam Sperling of San Francisco, CA, as well as a special cousin, Tobi Goldberg of Boston, MA.
Pam was born July 1, 1951, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of Marguerite Henshaw Sperling and the late Bernard "Bun" Sperling. She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and furthered education at Cazenovia College and St. Lawrence University where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree and later her Master's Degree and her Certificate of Advanced Study in Counseling And Human Development.
On July 20, 1996 she married William Short at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Canton with Revs. Anne Marsh and Wade Wheelock as co-celebrants.
Pam worked as an E.O.P. counselor for SUNY Canton, an H.E.O.P. counselor for Clarkson University and most recently she was a grief counselor for Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley. Countless people were able to improve their lives through their connections with Pam.
Pam was an active member of the U.U. Church in Canton serving on the R.E. Committee, the church council and was involved in Caring Circle at the church. She enjoyed precious time spent with grandkids and family, the couple's camp on the St. Lawrence River and the flower and vegetable gardens at her home.
A Celebration of Pam's Life will be July 2, 2016 at 10:00 AM the Unitarian Universalist Church, Main Street, Canton. A reception will follow.
Memorial Donations would be preferred to: H.E.O.P. Gift Account through St. Lawrence University. Hope Lodge through the American Cancer Society…or "Be the Match" Bone Marrow Data Base Program at 500 North 5th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55401-1206.
