Obituary of M. Ardis Barnes

Funeral services for M. Ardis Barnes, 90, of Blanchard Road, W. Potsdam, will be Fri, April 18, 2014 at 1:00 PM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. Robert Schirmer officiating.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 2-4 & 6-8 at the funeral home. Burial will be in West Potsdam Cemetery at a later date.
Ardis was born April 19, 1923, in West Stockholm, NY, a daughter of the late, Edwin & Marion (Armstrong) Richardson.
On September 25, 1943, she married Wm. John Barnes. Mr. Barnes died in 1974. Prior to her marriage, she attended Canton A.T.I. for a year.
Ardis' employment always seemed to involve food and cooking. She worked at the Oval Wood Dish in Tupper Lake, for a resort in Lake Placid, she was employed as cook at St. Lawrence University and enjoyed making pies and salads at the Town Line Diner in Crary Mills. She was also a member of the Kings Daughters and the United Methodist Church in W. Potsdam.
Surviving are her loving family, which include her children, Marilyn Kingston of Madrid, Twila (Richard) Hayes of Crary Mills, Wm. Fay Barnes of Canton and Cindy (Fay) Sheldon of West Potsdam; twelve grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Paul Barnes of PA and sister-in-law, Beverly Brownell of West Potsdam. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by four brothers, Edwin Lyle Richardson, Otis Richardson, Jerald Richardson and Earl Richardson.
Ardis enjoyed many things, including baking, ceramics, gardening, bird-watching and serving food. She also was fond of traveling out West with her husband, Sunday dinners with family, riding through the mountains looking at the fall colors and especially time spent with her children and grandchildren.
Memorial contributions are suggested to: West Potsdam Volunteer Fire Dept., Crary Mills Tri-Town Community Center or to Hospice.
