Obituary of Robert Harvey Sanderson

Canton—   Robert “Bob” H. Sanderson, 83, of Goodrich Street, Canton, died Monday, Oct. 3, 2016 at University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington after being stricken at home.   The family will receive friends on Friday, October 7th  from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 21 Park Street, Canton.  A graveside service will be held privately at the convenience of the family.   Memorial contributions may be made to Veterans Awareness for Suicide Prevention or Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley   Bob was born February 27, 1933, in Canton, NY.  He was the son of the late Nelson H. and Mary Ann (Gorman) Sanderson.  He was a 1950 graduate of Canton High School, where he played football.   He enlisted in the US Army on March 3, 1953 and served during the Korean Conflict until is honorable discharge on Jan 29, 1955. He earned the following medals: Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.   Bob was an OTR Owner/Operator from 1970-1984. He later worked for Martin’s Beer Plant, as well as, Charlie’s Transfer.  He worked as construction foreman for Atlantic Testing when they built the new building. In 1989 he hauled water on Ft. Drum before going to work for Adirondack Asphalt in the early 1990’s.  He drove truck there until an injury forced his retirement.   Surviving his companion, Holly Jones of OH; six children, Tammy (Steve) Shoen of  Lisbon, Jodie (Joe) Spadacinni, Robert A. (Ina) Sanderson, Derek M. (Kate) Sanderson, Michael W. Sanderson and Bobbie Jo Sanderson all of Canton; six grandchildren, Seth & Matt Shoen, Anthony & Shawn Spadacinni and Skyler & Bella Sanderson; and a number of nieces and nephews.     He was predeceased by his wife Sally Craig Sanderson, a sister, Patricia Cotter and a brother, Earl Sanderson.   Bob enjoyed driving and working, mowing grass and plowing snow.  He was an outdoorsman, enjoying time on his property, but most of all he enjoyed precious time spent with his children.  He will be deeply missed by his family.   Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.lawrencefuneralhome.org
