Obituary of David Royal Mattice

Morley— David Royal Mattice, 71, of County Rte 14, Canton, died Monday, October 17, 2016 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 19 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton. His funeral will be held Thursday, October 20 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with Lay Minister John Frary officiating. Additional off-street parking is available behind "Luna" on Park Street. David was born May 13, 1945, in Potsdam, NY, a son of the late, Vernon & Martha (Babbitt) Mattice. He attended Madrid-Waddington High School until the death of his father, at which time he took over the family farm. He later enlisted in the US Army, serving from ____ to _____. On February 19, 1967, he married Donna J. Votra at the First Presbyterian Church in Potsdam with Rev. Jack Wells as celebrant. The couple were married nearly 40 years. David was employed as a Transport driver for Griffith Energy and previously for Parish Energy. Surviving are his wife, Donna of Morley; his daughter, Angela (Truman, Jr.) Swinyer of Norwood; two sons, David, Jr. (Suzanne) of Balston Lake, Ny and Erich (Kimberly) of Canton; a brother, Douglas Mattice of Parishville; 10 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. David was a Past Chief and Commissioner, as well as, an EMT for Morley Fire Department. He was a also a member of Newton Falls Sports and Recreation Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and bowling. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Morley Fire Department.
