Canton--
Charlene Lynn Longshore, 72, of Rushton Drive, Canton, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2017, at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Charlene was born December 21, 1944, in Morrisville, VT, a daughter of the late Wilbur G. "Chick" and Beatrice F. Smith Martin.
On July 27, 1963, she married her beloved Joseph R. Longshore in St. Regis Falls, NY. They spent 49 wonderful years together before Joseph passed away on October 18, 2011.
Charlene spent decades working for the St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office, retiring as Chief Civil Deputy in 1998.
After retirement, she and Joe spent winters in VA Beach, where they made lots of new friends and volunteered for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Surviving are her daughter, Lori (Gregory) Camden of Virginia Beach, Va; a son Joseph R. (Susanne) Longshore, II of Canton; three grandchildren, Courtney Camden and Noah & Jonah Longshore; two sisters, Marlene Whitmarsh and Harleen MacKinnon; a brother, John Martin and several of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Karleen Johnson, who died December 2016.
Charlene was a lover of music, especially Josh Groban, Wynona Judd (who once sang Happy Birthday to her), Celine Dion and Bette Midler. Charlene was most passionate about her family. There was no one with a larger heart, a stronger sense of family or greater love to share.
Above all else, Charlene would want her family to be happy, and know that she is shining down on them every day, because they were her greatest achievements.
A Private Memorial is being planned for the Spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital or to Canton Fire & Rescue.
