Obituary of Beverly Thompson Oliver
BEVERLY OLIVER, Canton, NY/Fort Myers, FL–
BEVERLY OLIVER passed on June 26, 2017 in Fort Myers at the age of 85.
Born on October 8, 1931 in Watertown, NY, Beverly grew up in Canton, NY, where her parents ran The Eskimo (most recently Morgan’s Ice House) on the Town Green. Beverly attended Canton public schools before training in radiology in Toronto. On April 24, 1954 at the Presbyterian Church she married John Oliver III.
Beverly worked as a radiologist at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital, was a member of the Presbyterian Church, and a volunteer with the Girl Scouts and St. Lawrence County Historical Association. She enjoyed summers at her family cottage, boating and fishing on the St. Lawrence River. After John’s retirement, Beverly played golf and explored boating and fishing in Florida. Beverly volunteered in her Fort Myers community researching genealogy, teaching English to non-native speakers and knitting for charity events. Beverly and John traveled extensively, visiting six continents.
Beverly is predeceased by her husband John on April 16, 2016. She is survived by her son and daughter in law, John Oliver IV (SLU ’79) and Deidre of Niwot, CO and their daughters, Alexandra, Taylor and financé Ian Bishop, Lauren and spouse Andy Carlson and their three sons Ryan, Jake and Cade; her daughter and son in law, Amy Oliver Wesson (SLU ’80) and Fred of West Bath, Maine, and their sons, Thomas, Winsor and Daniel.
A service to celebrate Beverly’s life will be held on Friday, July 14 at 2:00 PM in the Evergreen cemetery in Canton. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Local arrangements are being handled by Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park Street, Canton. Condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.lawrencefuneralhome.org
