Canton—

Mr. Alan Curtis Mitchell, 81, of State Street, Canton, died Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Maplewood Campus where he had been a resident since February 2017.

With respect to Mr. Mitchell’s wishes, services will be handled privately.

Alan was born November 25, 1935, on the Canadian island of Campabello off the coast of Lubec, ME.  He was the son of the late Morton K. & Hazel (Curtis) Mitchell.   He graduated from Trenton High School in Ontario in 1955 and then enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in New Mexico.  He served for 4 years less one day (1959). 

Alan worked seven years at General Electric in the x-ray office in Syracuse, NY before going to work for Hepburn Hospital, Ogdensburg.  There he worked in the maintenance department for all the hospital equipment.  He retired November 1996 due to complications of diabetes.

Alan is survived by his wife Georgia Marie Coller Mitchell of Maplewood, Canton; a son, Craig A. and wife Kathleen of Colton; two daughters, Corinne Toomey and husband Robert of Canton and Cristy A. Mitchell of Canton; as well as, one niece and two nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Carolyn Burkett.

He was a member of the Stag (hunting) near Seve’s Corners, hunting with his father-in-law.  He also belonged to Maple City Prop Busters model airplane club in Ogdensburg.
