Obituary of Sylvia E Winterbottom

Sylvia E. Winterbottom, 87, of Spears Street, Canton, died Monday, August 28, 2017 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief stay.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 1st from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park Street, Canton.
Sylvia was born December 8, 1929, in Schenectady, NY, a daughter to, Ernest &
Cannelle (Panopalis) Stamas. She grew up in Malone, NY and later graduated with an R.N. degree from Flowers Fifth Avenue School of Nursing in New York City.
On October 17, 1956, she married James I. Winterbottom in Malone, NY. The couple moved to Canton, NY, where Sylvia was dedicated to caring for her growing family.
Surviving are her husband, James I. Winterbottom of Canton; two adopted daughters, Holly Rivera of Jim Thorpe, PA and Heather Richardson of Madrid; two grandchildren, Jordana Bresett of Ogdensburg and Nichole Wentz of Jim Thorpe, PA; two great-grandchildren, Savannah Wentz and Roslyn Bresett; two sisters, Koula Zaumseil of Missouri and Helen Stamas. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a sister, Dolly Jervais in 1995.
Sylvia was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Canton, where she served on the alter guild. She also knitted numerous scarfs and mittens for the less fortunate in cooperation with the VFW Post #1231, Canton. Mostly Sylvia took great pride in being a homemaker and raising her daughters.
