Elizabeth C. Irish departed this life on the morning of May 23, 2014 while residing at United Helpers Maplewood Nursing Home Facility at Canton, New York. She had been a resident at Maplewood for the past two years. She was a long time resident of the Kinderhook/ Valatie New York communities prior to her move to Northern New York approximately 20 years ago. Born the sixth daughter of George and Agnes (Grant) Carpenter in Fitchburg, Massachusetts on October 1, 1919, upon graduation from high school, she served in the United States Army during the Second World War. She married Roger B. Linden, Sr. on February 19, 1950 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts and with him had three children, Roger B. Linden, Jr., Wade D. Linden and Grant Linden. Their third child died at birth. Elizabeth’s first husband died on August 6, 1969. She then found work as a nursing assistant in the private medical offices of Dr. Asbornsen and also Dr. Rogati in Kinderhook and Valatie, New York where she continued to raise her family. On December 26, 1977 she married George Whitney Irish and they settled in North Chatham, New York where they resided until their move to the Northern New York region approximately 20 years ago. She and her husband, “Whitney”, traveled the world over and had many enjoyable experiences with one another. She is survived by her husband, George Whitney Irish, her sons, Roger B. Linden, Jr., (Audrey) of Parishville Center, New York, Wade D. Linden (Mary) of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania, four beloved grandchildren, Paul Aaron Linden (Kristen), of Parishville Center, New York, Jennifer Anne Fisher (Jeffrey) of Charlotte, North Carolina, Christopher Whitney Linden of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania and Jason Kyle Linden of Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. In addition, she is survived by three beloved great grandchildren, Elaina Anne Fisher, Elizabeth Audrey Fisher and Landen Robert Fisher all of Charlotte, North Carolina. Final arrangements are with Lawrence Funeral Home of Canton, New York and Bond Funeral Home of Valatie, New York. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the North Chatham, New York Cemetery. There will no calling hours. Condolences may be sent to her husband, G. Whitney Irish, at the United Helpers Maplewood Assisted Living Facility located at 205 State Street Road, Canton, New York 13617. Memorial donations may be made to either the Society of the United Helpers of Ogdensburg, New York or to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley of Potsdam, New York. Elizabeth’s family extends its sincere and profound gratitude to those who have provided for her care and support at United Helpers Partridge Knoll, United Helpers Maplewood and Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
