Obituary of James Donald Wood
Myrtle Beach, S.C: James Donald Wood, 68, passed away at Conway Medical Center in Conway, South Carolina September 13th.
James Donald Wood was born September 15, 1948 in Potsdam, NY, a son of Margaret (Briggs) Wood and the late Kenneth Wood. He attended Canton Central Schools, and graduated from Hugh C. Williams High School in 1966. Jim graduated from the State University of New York at Canton in 1968 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He continued his studies at Clarkson University in Information Systems and Computer Technology.
Jim was also a veteran in the US Army Reserves, where he served honorably for six years. He was a long-time member of the Bricklayers Local #81 in Ogdensburg, NY. Jim went on to become a Certified Data Processing Manager and worked in this position for 34 years at Reynolds Metals Company of Massena, NY (now Alcoa).
Jim married Cheryl Frank in 1970 in Canton, NY. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl, and their daughter, Alyssa (Wood) Johnson and her husband, Frankie Johnson, all of the Myrtle Beach, SC area. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, all of California. In addition, Jim is survived by his mother, Margaret Wood, of Canton, as well as his brother, Joseph Wood and wife Bonnie of Canton. and their children. He is also survived by a brother, Robert Wood and wife Laurie, and their children, Tyler Wood of Canton as well as daughter, Emiley (Wood) Thacker, her husband, Joseph,, and their daughter Avery, also of Canton. Jim also leaves behind a brother-in-law, James Frank Jr. and Carla Frank of Canton, and their children, James Paul and Ashley. Additionally, Jim is survived by brother-in-law Larry Frank and wife Laura of Canton, and their sons, George and Ethan.
During his career, Jim was a member of the Canton Lions Club, the Massena Flying Club, and St. Thomas Moore Catholic Newman Center. Following his retirement, Jim and his family moved to Myrtle Beach, SC, where he was a member of the Myrtle Beach Elks Lodge and attended St. James Catholic Church in Conway. He was a partner for the past ten years in Tri-City Surface Coating Company, where he specialized in decorative concrete.
A memorial service will be held Monday, September 18, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Canton, NY. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
