Canton—
Esther Agnes Pitts, 92, formerly of Jones Road, Canton, died Saturday, September 23, 2017 at United Helpers Riverledge.
Her funeral will be held on Fri, Sept. 29th at 2:00 PM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 21 Park Street, Canton with Rev. Michael H. Terrell officiating. The family will receive friends from Noon to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will follow at Crary Mills Cemetery.
Esther was born Feb 22, 1925, in Theresa, NY, the daughter of the late, Robert Allen & Ethel May (Sheets) Binion.
On June 24, 1947, she married Clifford Pitts in Morley. Clifford passed away in June 1971.
Surviving are two brothers, Bruce (Barbara) Binion of North Syracuse and Kenneth (Lucy) Binion of Oceanside, CA and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her brothers, Robert Jr. and Morris Binion and also a sister Pauline Binion.
Esther lived in Canton most of her life and loved her family, friends and her home. After losing Clifford, she lived alone much of her life, without a driver’s license, so she relied on some wonderful nearby friends, Rita Witt, Mary Jane Youngs and the Lennox family to name a few. Esther enjoyed motorcycle rides with her husband, county music, birdwatching, puzzles and playing the card game “Pedro” with her mother and brothers. She also enjoyed playing Yahtzee, collecting “trinkets”, sitting in her “breeze-way”, watching her tv shows and Toronto Blue Jays baseball games. Her brothers always referred to her as “Sissy Bin”. In her later years, she loved her “apartment” at the Riverledge nursing home where she enjoyed the social activities and prizes that she won at bingo. She connected with many of the aides and residents there. Esther had such a strong will about her and truly cared about those in her life. She will be deeply missed.
Memorial contributions are suggested to United Helpers Riverledge, Ogdensburg, NY.
