Obituary of Donald John Shoulette

Canton-

Donald J. “Donnie” Shoulette, 81, of Miner Street Road, Canton, died unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 1, 2018.  He was the husband of the late Lillian M. Shoulette, who died January 1, 2018.

His funeral will be held on Sunday, March 4th at 2:15 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park Street, Canton.   The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the funeral.

Donnie was born July 4, 1936, in Potsdam, NY the son of the late John “Henry” & Lola McNeil Shoulette.  He attended grade school at St. Mary’s School and graduated from Canton High School in 1954.   He later joined the US Army for two years, stationed in Korea.

On June 10, 1961, he married his beloved, Lillian M. Day at St. Mary’s Church in Canton.  The couple were married 56 and one half years. 

Donnie retired in 1995 from the US Postal Service as a mail carrier after 35 years of service.  Later he inspired his son and daughter-in-law to open Shoulette’s Redemption Depot on Miner Street in Canton, where he assisted in the day to day operations.

Surviving are his two children and their spouses, David “Stubby” & Reannette Shoulette and Deanne “Dee” & Derrick Frisco all of Canton; a sister and brother-in-law, Gloria & Nick Spadacinni of Canton; three grandchildren, Jessica Caskinett, Shauna Frisco and Allison Shoulette; five great-grandchildren, Gage, Wade, Nevaeh, Bryson and Adalynn.  He will also be remembered by his cousins, Grace Ann Carmen of Redwood and Connie Shoulette of Hammond and his faithful companion Layla.

He was a 30+ year member of both the Rock Pond Hunting Club and the Canton Sportsman’s Club.  He was also a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, where he served as an altar boy and took collection for many years.

Donnie was an outdoors guy, he enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, 4-wheeling, fishing, hunting, NASCAR (especially #14 Tony Stewart), and taking the boys to motorcycle races.  He loved to be with his friends and his loving family.  His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him much joy.  He enjoyed life and a he had a good one !
