Obituary of Margaret Louise Forbes

Canton—

Margaret Louise “Peg” Forbes, 90, formerly of 42 Lincoln Street, Canton, died March 1, 2018, at Maplewood Campus, Canton.

Her funeral will be Monday, March 5th  at 4:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton with Rev. Michael P. Catanzaro officiating.   Calling hours will be held on Monday from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.  Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Canton in the spring.

Peg was born September 11, 1927, in New Haven, NY, a daughter of the late, Edward & Bertha Raymond VanBuren.  She was a graduate of Mexico Academy, NY and later from Canton ATI .  Peg worked at Barbour’s Department Store in Canton for a number of years.  Previously she worked at the Ann Shop in Canton.

On July 3, 1947,  she married Emerson T. Forbes at the First Presbyterian Church of Canton.  Emerson died Nov 10, 2012.

Surviving are her daughter, Lynette M. “Lyn” Forbes of Canton; a son, Thomas E. & wife Kimberlee of Watertown; a grandson, Craig Emerson Forbes of Watrertown; a sister, Ellen Schmidt of Groton, CT; a niece, Sharon Schmidt and a nephew, George (Joe) Schmidt.   She was predeceased by a sister, Bertha Hubbart.

Peg enjoyed spending time at the family camp on the St. Lawrence River, reading and visiting with the patrons of Barbour’s Department Store.

Memorial contributions may be made to Maplewood Campus Activities Department, Canton Free Library or to Canton Fire & Rescue.
