Obituary of Barbara J. Wilder
Canton—
Barbara J. Wilder, 86, of Partridge Knoll, Canton, died Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital while surrounded by her loving family.
Her funeral will be held on Thursday, March15th at 11 am at Canton United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael H. Terrell officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 3-6 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton and one hour prior to the funeral at church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Canton.
Barbara was born March 4, 1932, in Campbellford, Ontario, a daughter of the late, Earl H. & Ruth McCoy Greig. She was a graduate of Etobicoke Collegiate, Toronto. She later worked for Bell Telephone Company of Toronto, Canada.
On June 13, 1953, she married her beloved Harold W. Wilder in Toronto, Canada. Harold died January 25, 2017.
Barbara always said, “She was a Professional Volunteer”, helping with Thousand Islands Girl Scout council, Benton Library Board and Canton United Methodist Church. She also belonged to St. Lawrence Golf Country Club, where she served as President of Women’s Association, Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, Kingsway Country Club Women’s Association.
Surviving are her loving children, Sue Wilder and companion Jim Spilbor of Stormville, NY, Diane Guluzian of Chelmsford, MA and Brian Wilder of Ellijay, GA; son-in-law, Dr. Daniel Palmateer of Canton; sister, Dorothy Wharram of Mississauga, Toronto, Canada; four grandchildren, Julia Wall and husband Chris, Andrew Palmateer and Greig and Justin Guluzian.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy Wilder Palmateer on June 16, 2015.
Barbara enjoyed singing in the church choir, where she was a bell ringer; quilting and knitting; spending time at camp on Lake Ozonia and golfing.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Canton Free Library and Canton United Methodist Church.
