M. Audrey Race, 88, formerly of Hermon, died Thursday, May 24, 2018, at Maplewood Campus where she was a resident since 2016.  She was the wife of the late Arthur Race, who died in 1993.

 Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 7:15 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton with Lay Minister John Frary officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5-7 PM.  Burial will be held in Lisbon Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hermon United Methodist Church or to Lisbon Cemetery Association (White Church Cemetery).  

Audrey was born January 22, 1930 in Lisbon, NY.  She was  a daughter of the late, James A. & Lena J. (Aubrey) Harper and graduated from Lisbon Central School in 1946 and later from Wallace Secretarial School in 1948.

On May 21, 1949, she married Arthur Race, Jr. at the Presbyterian Mance in Heuvelton with Rev. Allan G. Bowering as celebrant.

Audrey worked for Social Services from 1949-50.  Worked for Hugh C. Williams as his secretary in 1954, then worked at SUNY Cornell for 19 years, retiring in 1985.  She later worked for Office of the Aging, retiring in 1994.

She was a 50+ year member of Crary Mills Presbyterian Church where she served as organist and  belonged to United Presbyterian Women and later for Hermon United Methodist Church.  She was also a member of the St. Lawrence County Historical Society.

Surviving are her children Robert (Peg McFarren) Race of Eagan, MN, Michael (Vicky Barron) Race of Port Barre, LA, James (Cathy Allen) Race of Hermon, NY and Suzanne (Stephen) Mackey of Schenectady, NY; seven grandchildren, William (Eva) and Timothy Mackey, Sara Race, Caitlyn Race, Jonathan (Debra) Race, Dezirae Preston and Chelsea Streeter and five great-grandchildren.

Audrey had numerous interests including, music, doing needlework, quilting, cooking, gardening, traveling and camping and playing card games.  She was also an avid fisherwoman.
