Obituary of M. Alan Nelson

Miller "Alan" Nelson, 95, of County Route 27, Lisbon, died Thursday, June 12, 2014 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief stay. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 16th at 11:00 AM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton with Rev. Walter Smith officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of the funeral. Burial will be in Lisbon Cemetery. Alan was born March 8, 1919, in Ogdensburg, a son of the late Miller and Mary (McCormick) Nelson. He attended Lisbon Central School and was a member of the Lisbon Grange for a number of years. In the fall of 1948, he married Evelyn Helmer in Potsdam. Evelyn died in 2007. Alan spent nearly his entire life farming. He sold the cows on 2005 and then the farm in 2007. Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Edward C. & Bethany Nelson of Lisbon; a niece Linda and a nephew Robert and a five cousins. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a brother Robert in 1938. Alan and his wife Evelyn enjoyed traveling together to Florida and California.
