Obituary of William E. Meenan, Jr.
Formerly of Canton-
William E. "Bill" Meenan, Jr., 87, of Guston Square, Colton, died Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 19 from 5-8 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton. His funeral will be Thursday, December 20 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor Brad Ingram officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Canton.
Bill was born September 11, 1931, in Camden, NJ. The was the son of the late, William E. Sr. & Bella (Lane) Meenan, he graduated from Haddon Heights High School and later from Taylor School of Business in Philadelphia, PA.
On March 3, 1951, he married Ruth Strauss at the Potsdam Presbyterian Church. The couple were married nearly 68 years. Bill and Ruth were residents of Crary Mills for over forty years before moving to Colton.
Bill was the owner/ operator of Service Master in Canton for many years. Previously he was a union mason and worked the penalty box during the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by three sons, William E. (Karen) Meenan,III of Colorado, Jim (Joye) Meenan of Colton, NY and Gary Meenan of Watertown and Dominican Republic; a sister, Lillian Smith of Grangeville, NY; four grandchildren, Nikole, Billy IV, Anna & Sean, Tammy, Paul and Christina Burgenstock; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan & Gracie and Billy V and Evelyn.
He was predeceased by a son, Kevin and a grandson, Ryan.
Bill was active in Canton PeeWee baseball and hockey, where he coached in the 60's and 70's. He also involved in the building of the dug-outs and concession stand at the Ike Noble ball field. Bill was also an avid SLU hockey fan of both the men's and women's program and collecting antiques. Bill was also involved with the Southern Baptist Convention.
