Obituary of William J McCluskey

Canton—

William J. “Bill” McCluskey, 82, of Farmer Street, Canton, died peacefully at his home, while surrounded by his.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, Feb 4, 2019 at 3:00 PM at St. Mary’s in Canton with Rev. Douglas J. Lucia as celebrant.   Calling hours will be held privately for the family.  Spring burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

A celebrational gathering will follow the mass at Canton Fire & Rescue.

Bill was born October 22, 1936, in Plattsburgh, NY.  He was a son of the late, Thomas M. & Rose Marie (Patnode) McCluskey.

He started school at Plattsburgh Broad Street School before going to St. Mary’s School in Canton and graduating from Canton High School in 1955.  He furthered his education at Canton ATI, where he majored in Banking.

On November 26, 1961, he married Sarita Matthews at St. Mary’s in Ogdensburg with Father Whittaker as celebrant.  Sadly , Sarita passed on March 20, 1985.

Bill worked for Community Bank, retiring as Branch Manager.  His career spanned 48 years.  He was manager at Madrid, Norfolk, Canton and Star Lake.

Surviving are his children, Susan Theisen of Potsdam, Pat McCluskey of Conifer and Brian McCluskey of Canton; four grandchildren, Scott, Zach & Emily Theisen and Kilee McCluskey; and a great-grandson, Keegan Theisen.

In addition to his wife, Sarita, he was predeceased by his brother, Thomas McCluskey and his sister, Nancy McCluskey.

Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Canton and a 52 year member of Canton Fire & Rescue.  In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, bowling and of course, fire fighting.  He also enjoyed spending time with his dog “Keegan”.
