Obituary of Eleanor Irene Rood
Formerly of Canton --
Eleanor Irene Rood, 93, of Ballad Avenue, Rochester, formerly of Canton, NY, died in the company of her loving family at Unity Hospital in Rochester on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.
Her funeral will be held on Sunday, February 24 at 2:00 PM in the Canton United Methodist Church, Canton, with Rev. Michael H. Terrell officiating.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 23 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in the spring.
A memorial service will be held in Rochester on March 10, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Wesley United Methodist Church, 2009 Dewey Avenue.
Eleanor was born June 21, 1925, in Canton, NY. She was a daughter of the late, Austin & Flossie (Robinson) Todd and graduated from Canton High School.
On June 30, 1946 she married, the late, Richard B. Rood in the United Methodist Church. The couple raised three children and lived in Rochester for the past 71years.
Surviving are her children, Terry (Eileen) Rood, Karen Rood, Gregory A. (Patricia) Rood; grandchildren, Sheri (William) Murdock, James Rood, Meghan (Adam) Kasperkoski, Jason Rood, Michael Rood, Gregory J. Rood; great-grandchildren, Thomas & Ryan Murdock, Keyna Rood, Caleb Kasperkoski; a sister, Avis Ragan; a brother, Richard (Mary) Todd; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Diane; a sister, Thelma McCollum; brothers, Frances, James, Lawrence and Albert.
Eleanor was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Rochester and the Women's Society.
She enjoyed spending precious time with her grandchildren & great-grandchildren, as well as, following the NY Yankees, reading and traveling.
