Obituary of Lee Eugene Rawson
DeKalb Junction—
Lee E. “Dutch” Rawson, 82, of DeKalb Junction, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse, while surrounded by his family. He had been a patient there for nearly four weeks.
Born January 8, 1937, in Gouverneur, NY, he was the son of the late, Lee, Sr. & Dorothy Jean (Grandy) Rawson. He joined the US Army in January of 1954 and served three years in Japan during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1958.
In his early years, he was employed by Jaybil Industries, New York City, where he installed storm doors and windows on military bases and housing complexes all over the United States, until a back injury caused an early retirement.
He then moved back to DeKalb Junction, where he owned/ operated a firewood business he called “The Flying Dutchman”. In his later years, he was owner / operator of “Zorro’s Bar & Laundry” in Hermon, NY.
Dutch is survived by his son, Bret and wife Terri of Potsdam; daughter, Sue Divenuto and companion, Mike of Southfield, Mass.; son, Chris and wife Candy of E. Long Meadow, Mass.; step-daughter, Stacey Seavey of SC; grandchildren, Chris, Jr., Taylor Rawson, Nick Divenuto and Brandon Rawson; and a half-brother, Robert of Rhode Island.
He was predeceased by a sister, Sally.
At his request there will not be a formal service. Instead we will have a memorial service on Sunday, March 10th at 1:00 PM at the Lone Wolf Café in Hermon, NY.
