South Colton—

Betty M. Fountain, 88, of State Rte 56,  South Colton, died Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital while in the company of her loving family.

Calling hours will be Sunday, March 10 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton.  Additional off-street parking is available behind “LUNA”, 18 Park Street.

She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Hermon Cemetery in the spring at a day and time to announced.

Betty was born November 24, 1930, in the Town of Pierrepont and was a daughter of the late, Arthur & Grace (Petrie) Green.  She attended Colton Schools received her G.E.D. in 1978 from Canton High School.

On December 22, 1952, she married, the late, Lawrence Fountain in Forestville, MD.  The couple raised six children.  Lawrence died in 2007.

Betty will be remembered not only as a loving mother and grandmother, but for being owner/ operator of Betty’s Bar & Grill in South Colton.  Previously she worked at the Cascade, Vernon Restaurant and McCarthy’s.

Surviving are her five children, Judy (Gene) Aldous of Colton, Dale (Helen) Fountain of S. Colton, Randy Fountain of Clare, Larry “Deano” Fountain of S. Colton and Shelly Brennan of Hubbardsville, NY; eighteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; her siblings, Eldred, Edward, Freda, Jane, Ella, Geraldine, Edith, Thomas, Arthur and George.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Sally Long and brothers and sisters, Daniel, Archie, Fredrick, Beverly, Bonnie, Tony and Donald.

Betty was a life member of the VFW Potsdam, Colton AMVETS, Ladies Auxillary of Pierrepont Fire Dept. and Pierrepont Home Bureau.  She was fond of fishing and camping, caring for her flower gardens and playing card games, Pedro and Canasta.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Colton AMVETS and Colton Rescue Squad.
