Obituary of Edson William Clothier

Funeral services for Edson “Ed” W. Clothier, 77, of Clare, NY, will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton with Rev. John Frary officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery in Degrasse.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 22, from 5-7 PM. Additional off street parking is available behind “LUNA” at 18 Park Street. Ed died suddenly at his home on Tuesday, March 19, 2019.
Memorial contributions are suggested to either Pleasant View Cemetery or to Degrasse Volunteer Fire Department.
Ed was born October 14, 1941, in Crary Mills, NY. He was the son of the late, Marshall & Judith “TINA” E. (McEwen) Clothier. He graduated Canton High School in 1959 and on April 11, 1969, he married Joyce LaBar in the Canton United Methodist Church. The couple were married nearly 50 years.
Ed was member of Laborer’s Local 322, Massena for many years. He worked on numerous projects in the area, including the Seaway, St. Lawrence and Clarkson Universities, to name a few.
In addition to his beloved wife, Joyce, he is survived by his loving daughters, Barbara (Donnie Francis) Hundley of Brasher Falls, Mary Butterfield of Potsdam, Terrie (Matt Johnson) Clothier of Degrasse and Sara (Matt) Charpentier of Pierrepont; two sisters, Sylvia Smith and Ruth Pharoah; eight grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jessica, Zeb, Madison, Marah, Caleb, Christopher and Olivia; and several great-grandchildren.
He will also be fondly remembered by many friends including Denny Warren and his family.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Hundley, who died, October 15, 2017.
Ed had several interests and hobbies including: hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling, making maple syrup, picking berries and spending precious time at the family cabin. He had a great love of wood-working and restoring old cars and trucks. He also enjoyed his little hobby farm and socializing with dear friends and family.
Ed was a hard worker, a devoted family man and a wonderful provider for his wife and five daughters.
