Obituary of Ryan Porter

Gouverneur—

Ryan D. Porter, 25, of Battle Hill Road, Gouverneur  sadly passed on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton with Lay Minister John Frary officiating.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 8, from 4-7 PM at the funeral  home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Upstate Adult Palliative Care Service, 750 East Adams Street, Syracuse, NY 13210.

Ryan was born September 23, 1993, in Ogdensburg, NY, a son of Douglas L. & Kathy (Matthews) Porter, he graduated from Hermon-DeKalb Central School in 2012.

Surviving are his two daughters, Kaylin & Autumn Porter of Gouverneur; his mother, Kathy J. Porter and companion Donald Ashlaw, Jr. of Canton; his father, Douglas L. Porter of Gouverneur and companion Marie Bauer of Denmark; sister, Jessica and husband Chris Wszalek of Potsdam; nieces, Sophie & Ava Wszalek; maternal grandfather, Larry Matthews and companion Sandy Knowlden of Russell and maternal grandmother, Patricia Rickett of Canton.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Irvin & Marian Porter and an uncle, Charles Matthews.

In high school, Ryan enjoyed long distance running and playing video games, especially Guitar Hero, at which he was a master player, including often perfectly playing the guitar behind his back.  Ryan also enjoyed spending time at Grandpa Larry’s camp, and spending time with beloved family and friends, especially his two daughters.
