Formerly of Russell--

James Michael Briggs, 72, of Canton and formerly of Russell, NY, died Friday, May 31, 2019, at CVPH in Plattsburgh, NY, while surrounded by his close friends and companions, Donna Connor, Alfred Pritchard and April Mussen.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 10:00 AM in South Russell Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations will be graciously accepted.  Please send them to Lawrence Funeral Home, 21 Park Street, Canton, NY 13617.

Jim was born June 10, 1946, in Gouverneur.  He was a son of the late John Millard & Elsie Evelyn (Hance) Briggs and graduated from Clifton-Fine High School.  He was employed at Newton Falls Paper Mill for a number years.

On August 18, 1979, he married Susan C. Clarke in the Russell United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Bailey as celebrant.  Suzie died October 14, 2004.

In addition to his close friends and companions, he is survived by his brother, Jack Briggs; a son, Cory Briggs; a daughter, Lynn Ames; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  

Jim enjoyed fishing, camping, 4-wheeling, wood-working, playing the spoons to country music, playing cards, NASCAR, watching sports and the company of others.  Jim also was a member of the Russel Fire Department.
