Obituary of Raymond Clarence Mead, Sr.

RAYMOND CLARENCE MEAD

BORN:  JULY 4, 1934   PASSED:  JANUARY 7, 2019

Raymond C. “Joe” Mead, Sr., loving husband and father, passed away on January 7, 2019 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.  Joe was born in Canton, NY to parents Raymond L. Mead and Kathleen McCarthy Mead Conant. 

Joe graduated from Hermon-DeKalb High School in 1952 and soon embarked on his career with the United States Air Force beginning in November of 1953.  Joe met and married Loretta “Lorry” M. Stanley, together they were a military family and travelled the globe during Joe’s service that ended in November of 1973.  After retiring from the USAF, Joe return to Canton and went to work for NCC Systems in Norwood/Potsdam, NY, helping to establish the new business with his electronics expertise and sound work ethic. 

After 20 years at NCC, he retired again and along with Lorry they became travelling snowbirds enjoying the Arizona & New Mexico desert and the grandkids.  Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, the desert, spending time with grandkids and great grandkids, learning the computer along with anything electronic. 

He was preceded in death by wife Loretta “Lorry” Mead, brothers Joey Conant and Pat Conant, sister Eileen “Bug” Mead Fletcher, as well as, Lifelong  friends Bea and Hamp Schaefer.

Joe is survived by 4 children, Raymond “JR” Mead, Martha Orr, Mark Mead and Hamp Mead, 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  , a sister Julia “Judy” Blanchard, a brother Jerry Conant and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.

A graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at Fairview Cemetery in Canton.
