CANTON – Hugh A. "Mac" McElhearn, New York State Police, BCI (ret), 83, of Judson Street, Canton, died Monday, October 20, 2014 at his home while under the care and support of his loving family and Hospice. A Memorial Gathering will be held Wednesday, October 22nd from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Edward C. Seymour, VFW, Post #1231, Canton with a Service of Remembrance at 1:00 PM. Surviving are his wife Sally; two daughters, Debra Galvin of Pittsburgh, PA and Lura McElhearn Pope and husband Reginald of Owensboro, KY; one brother, John McElhearn of Staten Island; four grandchildren, Daniel Galvin of Brooklyn, Ryan Galvin of Queens and Michael and Marcus Pope, both of Owensboro, KY and several nieces, nephews and grand-nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert and two sisters-in-law, Mary and Virginia McElhearn. "Mac" was born October 17, 1931 in Kings County, New York City, NY, a son of the late, Hugh A. and Mary Kennedy McElhearn. He was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean Conflict. Hugh took great pride in his 25 year career as a New York State Police officer, retiring as investigator for the Bureau of Criminal Investigation. Memorial contributions are suggested to a charity of one's choice.
