Robert P. "Bob" Roca passed away at his home in Rensselaer Falls on February 11, 2014 at the age of 87.
Bob was born in Rensselaer Falls on August 5, 1926, the son of Fernando R. and Lena (Murray) Roca. He attended school in Rensselaer Falls.
Bob was first employed at Western Condensing in Heuvelton and in 1948 he began work at McAdam Cheese Co. in Heuvelton. He was later drafted in to the Army and served during the Korean Conflict from July 1952-August 1953. Upon returning home, Bob resumed work at McAdam Cheese retiring in 1991.
He married Ruth E. LaChance on August 28, 1948.
Bob enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and took great pride in his home and his yard. Many summers were enjoyed at the family camp on the St. Lawrence River. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He was also dedicated to the Village of Rensselaer Falls and devoted 22 years of service to the Village as Trustee and also as Mayor.
He was predeceased by his parents, his twin-brother, Roderic in 1945, a brother, Lyle in 1980 and a sister, Keitha Camp in 2013.
He is survived by his wife Ruth, son Roderic and wife Donna of Ogdensburg, daughter, Peggy Marcoux of Hyde Park, VT; granddaughter, Victoria Roca Mace and husband Christopher; grandson, James Roca of Ogdensburg; great-grandchildren Anthony & Brianna Mace; a sister-in-law, "Lee" Roca of Ogdensburg and two nieces, Joanne Roca of Ogdensburg and Mary Sue Lowery and husband John of Rodman, NY. He is also survived by a number of great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 at the funeral home with Rev. Tom Nichols officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.
