Obituary of Roger A. Murdie

Canton- Funeral Services for Roger A. Murdie, 88, of State Hwy 68, Canton, will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton at 6:15 PM with Rev. Michael H. Terrell, Pastor of Cantin United Methodist Church officiating. Calling hours will be held Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in the spring. Surviving are his his four sons and daughters-in-law, Roger & Shirley of Canton, Reggie & Cindy of Canton, Randy & Lorelei of Colton and Ron & Shirley. He is also survived by two brothers, Clarence of Gouverneur and "Bud" of Balston Spa, NY; six grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Roger was predeceased by his beloved wife Lucy (2013), a grandson, Eric (2008) and a brother, Robert (1972). He was born October 8, 1926 in Lisbon, a son of the late, William and Martha Murdie. He attended Lisbon Schools. On November 26, 1947, he married Lucy M. Noble at her parent's farm, the Noble Farm, in DeKalb. Roger was employed as a mechanic for near 50 years, working for local equipment dealers such as Huntley Farm Implements in Canton. He also enjoyed his hobby farm, where he raised heifers, pigs and chickens; going to his camp in North Russell, hunting, trapping and fishing.
