Vivian L. Sharpstene Warren "Sonny", 73, of Pleasant Street, Russell, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 2, 2014. She was affectionately known as "Sonny", "Aunt Biddy" and "Aunt Viv".
Calling hours will be held at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton on Tuesday, March 4 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the Russell United Methodist Church with Rev. Jon Frary officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Degrasse in the spring. "Viv" was born October 9, 1940 in Bridge Hampton, Long Island, a daughter of the late Francis "Sharp" Sharpstene and Lucille "Tealy" (Pike) Hewlett. She was a graduate of Knox Memorial, class of 1959. On June 5, 1965, she married "Denny" Warren in St. Mary's Church in Canton. The marriage ended in October of 1990. Surviving are Denny Warren of Degrasse; her daughter and, Shammie (Tom) Robinson of Russell; three sons, Vince (Deb) Warren of Malone, Norman ( Tammy) Warren of Canton and Pat (Dori) Warren of Russell; two sisters, Connie Sharpstene Whiteford and Pam (Richard) Hance; brothers, "Bee" (Vickie) Sharpstene, Bob (Mary) Hewlett, Steve Hewlett; nine grandchildren, Andy Warren, Mickey Warren, Jake Warren, Matt Warren, Jeremy Warren, Jared Warren, Mallory Robinson, Caleb Robinson and Kaitlyn Robinson; great-grandchild, Gavin Robinson. She will also be remembered by and a number of nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and dear friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Danny Sharpstene, sister, Jeanette Sharpstene and her step-mother, "Babe" Sharpstene, step-father Leo Hewlett. "Viv" worked very hard to help provide for her family. She started by cleaning homes for Canton area families including, Judge Chaney and Rev. Cummings. She was a "Bar Steward" at the Turnpike Tavern and the VFW in Canton. She also proudly worked for Compas in Ogdensburg in Quality Assurance. She was very active in the communities she lived in. She was a home health aide for Canton and Russell families; tax collector for the Town of Clare; Chaplain for the Russell Fire Department; Lay Speaker for the Russell United Methodist Church; was a Town of Russell Council Member and was a member of the VFW Post1231 Ladies Auxillary.
"Viv" loved, first and foremost, her children and grandchildren ! She enjoyed reading, knitting, crossword puzzles, watching the "Young & the Restless" and socializing. She enjoyed a good joke, had a great sense of humor and was very witty. She will be missed by all who knew her.
