Penny Houk, 64 of Canton, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief illness. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 20th from 4-7 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park Street, Canton. Penny was born December 10, 1950 in ​Potsdam​, NY, and was a daughter of the late, Doyle & Geraldine (Andrus) Searles. She was a 1969 graduate of Norwood-Norfolk Central School​.​ ​O​​n July 3, 1969, she married Carter K. Houk at the Norwood United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband Carter of Canton; ​H​er brother and three sisters, Linda (Roy) Trimm of Norwood, Richard (Donna) Searles of Norwood, Judy LaMay of Zephyr Hills, FL and Tamora (Kevin) Gollinger of West Pierrepont; her Aunt, Margaret​ P. ​​​(​Andrus​)​ Drew of St. Joseph's Nursing Home, Ogdensburg and numerous nieces and nephews. Penny had worked as a cook for St. Lawrence Inn​ and​ for a number of Sororities and Fraternities in ​the area​ and she was the caretaker for Stillwater Hunt Club- Middle Branch. She also sold cars for a time for Scott Ford and ​worked at ​Barstow Motors; was an assistant for an equine dentist and belonged to the Center Riding Club in St. Lawrence County. Penny enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens, working with stained glass and crafts​,​ and was very fond of her pets.​ She enjoyed horseback riding for many years.​ Memorial contributions are suggested to the Postdam Animal Shelter or to Canton-Potsdam Hospital Foundation.
