Canton: Funeral Services for Eugene D. Seeley, 86, of Route 27, Canton will be held Saturday June 27 at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 21 Park Street on Friday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM. Mr. Seeley died at Canton Potsdam Hospital June 23, 2015. He was born in Ogdensburg in 1929, the third son of Earl J. and Orva Wheater Seeley. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1946. Eugene and Shirley R. Rogers were married at the First Baptist Church in Ogdensburg in 1954. During his early working career he was a linotype operator and photographer for the Ogdensburg Journal and the St. Lawrence Plaindealer. He later was a photographer at the Photo Stop in Ogdensburg. He was an agent for Nationwide Insurance, Canton, for over 30 years, retiring in 2000. Mr. Seeley was active in his community, as Leader of Boy Scout Troop 3 and Pee Wee hockey coach in the 1970's. He was a founding member of the Canton Kiwanis Club, a Board member of the Society of the United Helpers, a Board member of the Fairview Cemetery, and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Canton. Gene had many interests including camping, rock collecting, golfing, fishing, snowmobiling, and especially gardening. He was an avid dancer, teaching line dancing for many years retiring in his early 80's. Survivors include his wife, Shirley R Seeley, two daughters Deborah Rathbun and Kathleen Locke both of Canton, a son David A. and Lisa Seeley of Hiram, Maine; 7 grandchildren: Brenda Failla, Tyler Locke, Becky Locke, Jennifer, Andrew, Robert, and Jeffrey Seeley; and seven great grandchildren. Eugene was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Luell and William Seeley, his son Jeffrey, and two grandchildren: Ben Rathbun, and Christopher Seeley. Burial will be private at the Fairview Cemetery.
