Barb taught my mom, Maggie Gaffney Toomey how to knit when she lived in Canton while my dad, Mike Toomey was overseas. My mom loved Barb and Jack and will be very sad to hear of her passing! My mom has passed down her knitting skills to us girls, and we continue to knit!

I remember going to the yarn shop, asking for a specific yarn color style...Barb would go into the room piled high with boxes count down a number pull out the exact color of yarn wanted. It was like magic. All those boxes looked the same to me. I remember walking by the house seeing Mr./Mrs. Klemens would be enjoying sitting on the porch. My sincere sympathy.

I remember being very excited to discover Mrs. Klemens and her yarn shop when I started working in Canton many years ago. Such a very nice lady. I didn’t realize - what a great array of talents, interests, and accomplishments in her life! My sincere condolences to her family.

I was a customer for many years as I worked in Canton for 37 years and her shop was right around the corner from where I worked. She was so friendly and so helpful and helped me several times picking out a pattern after I told her what I would like and picking the correct yarn and other supplies. I moved away after I retired and missed going to her shop and visiting with her and having her help. My sympathy and prayers for her family.

Barb was a wonderful person, and a great resource for those of us who love to knit. She was always calm and patient when people brought knitting problems to her, and she could reach into the stacks of yarn in her shop to pull out exactly what you were looking for. Barb always preferred the classics over passing trends, but she accommodated the preferences of everyone who walked through her door. We were proud at TAUNY to recognize Barb with a North Country Heritage Award. Many people who've seen Barb's portrait at The TAUNY Center have told warm stories about her and her cozy shop. All of us at TAUNY send our regards to Barb's loved ones, and wish you peace.

My sympathy to all the family on the loss of Barb. She was someone that my mother was forever searching out for all her knitting questions and supplies - always a wealth of information when Mom was in her shop or house. Barb certainly left her mark on the village of Canton. God speed, Barb.
