Morley—

Jeffrey Gerald Hyde, 27, of Morley-Potsdam Road, died tragically in an auto accident on November 6, 2019.

His funeral will be held on Monday, November 11, 2019 at 1:00 PM at SUNY Canton “Roo House” with Pastor Philip “Skip” Edie officiating.

The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1-3 PM and 6-8 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton.  The family will also receive friends from 11 AM until the time of the service on Monday at SUNY Canton.

  Additional off-street parking is available behind “LUNA” at 18 Park Street.

Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Heuvelton.

Jeff was born a son to John Hyde and Christine Ormsbee on May 9, 1992.  He was a 2010 graduate of Canton High School where he excelled in baseball, football and basketball.  While playing with the Golden Bears, he was named First Team All-Northern and earned Team Offensive MVP honors.   He was most recently studying Hospital Administration at SUNY Canton and scheduled to graduate in 2020.  Jeff played 27 baseball games for SUNY Canton, posting a .950 fielding percentage and nearly a .300 batting average.  As a team leader, he was named to the Empire 8 Conference’s President’s  list for his outstanding efforts in the classroom.  His education was very important to him and it showed.  An apprenticeship was waiting for him at Gouverneur Hospital.  He also attended LeMoyne College.

Jeff enlisted in the United States Army and served from 2012 to 2017.

When not in school or involved in sports, he worked at SUNY Canton during the summer as well as with Char’s Lawn Care business. 

He is survived by his mother Christine Ormsbee of South Carolina; his father John Hyde of Lisbon; his older brother  Josh Hunter of Morley;  maternal step-grandfather, Tom Kalal of Morley; Aunt Cheryl & Uncle John McLear of Lisbon, as well as, numerous other, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Edward & Marie Hyde; maternal grandparents, Gerald Ormsbee and Elaine Kalal; Aunt Debbie Ormsbee; and Uncle Jeff Ormsbee.

Jeff will be remembered for his love of sports, playing softball with his brother and friends on the Morley Mad Dogs Team, playing summer soccer, scuba diving with his father in the St. Lawrence River, fishing in the Grasse River for musky, pike and bass.  He was also an avid Yankees, Cowboys and Syracuse fan.

He loved life.  He was often quiet but he truly loved his family and friends.  He was a special young man who tried his best at everything he did.  He will be sadly missed.
