Canton—

Arlene D. Maroney, 85, of Irish Settlement Road, Canton died unexpectedly on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital after a brief stay.

A memorial mass will be held Saturday, November 23 at 10 AM in the Sanctuary of St. Mary’s Church, Canton with Rev. Bryan Stitt as celebrant.

Arlene was born April 23, 1934 in Massena, NY and was a daughter of the late George & Eva Runions.

On August 24, 1973, she married the late John M. Maroney at St. Mary’s Church in Canton with Rev. Gillette as celebrant.   Her beloved John died February 13, 2012.

In addition to her husband John, Arlene is predeceased by a sister Dorothy Green.

She will be fondly remembered by dear friends, Barb, Charlene and Bob and Joy.

Arlene was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Canton and supported Potsdam Humane Society and Arbor Day Foundation.

While working, she was an aide at Cedar Nursing Home, Ogdensburg and Moongate Nursing Home in Canton.  Her and her husband enjoyed cutting firewood on the Everett Thompson property on the Donnerville Road, Russell.  The couple also enjoyed going to auctions.

Arlene enjoyed the company of not only her dear friends but her her latest dog “Jazzy” and previously “Butterfly”.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Mary’s Church, Canton or to Potsdam Humane Society.
