Obituary of Elaine Carrie Whiteford

Elaine Carrie Whiteford, 70, of County Route 25, died peacefully at her home while under the loving care of her family on Thursday, January 2, 2020.

There will be no services per Elaine and family’s request.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Richard E. Winter Cancer Treatment Center, 5 Lyon Place, Ogdensburg 13669.

Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services has been entrusted to Elaine’s care and arrangements.

Elaine was born March 14, 1949, in Potsdam, NY a daughter of the late Vernon H. & Carrie J. (Fizette) Garrow. She attended Savannah High School and married Edward “David” Whiteford on December 4, 1965 in North Russell with Rev. Carl Jacobs as celebrant. The couple were married 54 years.

Elaine worked as a waitress for Ralph’s Restaurant in 1966. She also ran a dairy farm with her husband David in the Town of Russell. She also enjoyed working in the woods.

Surviving are her husband David of Russell; a son Clint (Lisa Smith) Whiteford of Diamond, OH; two daughters, Lisa (Tim) Powers of Pierrepont and Meggan A. Whiteford of Russell, NY; a sister, Dayle Garrow of Lyons, NY; nine grandchildren Chad Whiteford, Tyler and Emily (Kerwin) Whiteford of Fairfield CA, Amber Whiteford of Waddington, Joshua Whiteford of Heuvelton, Ashley Whiteford of Potsdam, Matt and Amanda (Alvarado) Smith of Warren Ohio, Kayla Powers of Potsdam, Sierra Powers of Pierrepont and Kendra Barkley of Ogdensburg and eight great grandchildren Cameron, Zayne, Jayce, Paisley, Aidan, Landon, Liam and Ryker; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father John in 2001, her mother Carrie in 2018, a sister Kay Milligan and a niece Amy Lovely.

Elaine really liked the summer time so she could get her pool up and running, although she spent more time cleaning it than she did in it. She also loved old time country music and listening to people play the guitar.
