DeKalb Junction- Virginia Bullis, 91, of Cousintown Road, DeKalb Junction, died January 12, 2020 peacefully in her sleep in her home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 15 from Noon to 2:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton. Her funeral will be held immediately following the calling hours with Pastor Jamie Sinclair officiating. Burial will be in Brick Chapel Cemetery, Canton. Virginia was born July 24, 1928 in Canton, NY. She was a daughter to the late Glen & Ruth M. (Hosley) France and attended Cousintown Schools before graduating Hermon High School in 1947. On August 18, 1948 she married Wheaton Bullis in Canton, NY. She retired from St. Lawrence County Clerk’s Office in 1997 after 25 years of service. Previously she worked at Hundley’s Farm Implements for many years. Surviving are her daughter, Sheila (Scott, Sr.) Newcombe of DeKalb Junction; a sister-in-law, Geraldine France of Canton; a cousin, Evonne Swenson of RI; three grandchildren, Sherry (John) McLaughlin of DeKalb Jct, Scott (Joshua Rose) Newcombe of Plattsburgh and Sean (Christy Chase) Newcombe of Hermon; six great-grandchildren; and three nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Wheaton (1990), a son, Michael Bullis (1994), A brother, Kenneth France (1976) and a great-grandson, Jackson McLaughlin (2018). Virginia was a Cub Scout Leader for over 40 years and was active in her community. She was a member of Brick Chapel Ladies Aide and a Sunday School Teacher and greeter at Canton United Methodist Church for many years. She enjoyed cooking, the Lawrence Welk Show and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions are suggested to Cub Scout Pack #144, Hermon-DeKalb.
