Obituary of Nancy Wilder Palmateer

Nancy Wilder Palmateer, of Canton, NY died in Tupper Lake on July 16, 2015. She was 61 years old. Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Daniel; her children, Julia Wall (Chris) of West Roxbury, MA and Andrew Palmateer of Washington, DC; her sisters, Sue Wilder (Jim) of Stormville, NY, Diane Guluzian of Chelmsford, MA, and her brother, Brian Wilder of Ellijay, GA; and her parents, Barbara and Harold Wilder, of Canton, NY. Nancy was born on March 25, 1954 in Canton, NY to Barbara and Harold Wilder. The oldest of four siblings, she attended Canton Central School and graduated from St. Lawrence University with a degree in Art History. She completed her Master’s degree in Library Sciences at SUNY Albany. She was employed by the Canton Central School District as a Library-Media Specialist for over 20 years, passing on her love for reading and the pursuit of knowledge to many hundreds of students. Her former students and colleagues remember her as a patient, supportive teacher who brought stories to life with her animated narrations. In addition to her love for sharing the joy of learning, Nancy was an avid artist and creator; she enjoyed painting, woodworking, knitting, and baking. She loved to spend time at the family camp in Tupper Lake; reading on the dock, paddleboarding, kayaking, and sailing with her loving family. Calling hours will be held July 20th from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home in Canton, NY. A funeral service will be held July 21st at 11:00 AM at Canton United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael H. Terrell and Rev. William G. Hart co-officiating.
