Diane J. (Friedel) Guyette, 77, of Canton, died Thursday, December 24, 2020 at the home of her daughter, Tammy, in San Jacinto, CA.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 8, 2021 from 11 AM to 1:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM in Evergreen Cemetery, Canton. Social distancing and Masks will be required.
Diane was born March 11, 1943 in Utica, NY and was a daughter of the late Kenneth, Sr. and Dorothy (McFadden) Friedel. She was a 1963 graduate of Potsdam High School and at the age of 32 she studied at Canton ATC then Cal State Long Beach, California where she received her B.A. and eventually earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling. She studied for 15 straight years while raising her family.
A marriage to Royal J. Guyette, Sr. ended after 15 years.
Diane retired as a social worker for North Star in Malone, NY. Previously she worked for Franklin County Department of Social Services in the Foster Care Unit. She was also a member of National Association of Social Workers of Albany, NY and a member of the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are her four children, Royal J. Guyette, Jr. of CA, Randy S. Guyette of Canton, Tammy A. Couch of CA and James A. Guyette of Canton; three sisters, Judith (Ernie) Rose of Canton, Susan (Spencer) Blanchard of NC and Marjorie (Charlie) Tupper of Canton; two brothers, Bruce (Sheila) Friedel of Colton and Kenneth (Betsy) Friedel, Jr. of Potsdam; ten grandchildren, Michael, Sherri, Christopher, Erika, Randy, Jr., Crystal, Philip, James, Jr., Jacob and Serena; and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a stillborn daughter, Grace.
Some of Diane’s special interests and hobbies included: flower arranging, volunteer for Maplewood Campus and Senior Citizens, camping, volunteer driving for St. Lawrence County, being a board member for Canton Day Care, volunteering at Church and Community Giving Tree Program, Helping Hands in Hannawa Falls and was a West Potsdam Ladies Auxillary Member. She will also be remembered for her Love of people and Elvis music.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Canton Day Care, United Helpers Maplewood Activities Fund or Canton Fire & Rescue.
