Canton— Dorothy Forsythe Osterhout, 92, of Sykes Road, Canton, died unexpectedly due to the result of an automobile accident in Ogdensburg on Monday evening, September 14, 2015. Her funeral services will be held on Friday, September 18th at 10:00 AM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park Street Canton with Pastor Donna Doig officiating. Calling hours will be Thursday, September 17th from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Canton. Additional off-street parking is available behind "LUNA" on Park Street. Dorothy was born in Depeyster, a daughter of the late George & Romae Ritchie Pike. She graduated from Rensselaer Falls High School in 1939 at the age of 16. Surviving are her companion, Joe Wilkins of Canton; three children, Donalda Cole-Premo and husband Joe of Chase Mills, Linda Matthews Burke & husband Randy of Potsdam and Robert Forsythe & companion Becky of Canton; three sisters, Grace McBath, Alice Dumas and Donna Dunn all of Waddington; a brother Kenneth Pike of Waddington; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and one great-grandson. She was predeceased by her two husbands, Donald Forsythe (1970) and Harold Osterhout (1994); three sisters, Betty Johnson, Beatrice French and Doris Cameron, as well as, six brothers, George, Vern, Albert, Victor, Don & Jerome. Dorothy had worked as a buyer for Brit's Dept. Store, as a bookkeeper for Matott's Snowmobile, Seymour Commission Sales, Crandle's Farm Machinery and ARC, from where she retired in 1995. Dorothy and her husband Donald ran Allis Chalmer Farm Equipment, Case Machinery and ArtiCat Snowmobiles dealership for nine years. She sold the business in July of 1971. She was also a hostess for Flack Bus Tours for 5 years and a member of VFW #1231 Ladies Auxillary. She truly enjoyed being around people. Dorothy also enjoyed playing BINGO, she traveled every State but four, including Hawaii. She had also been to Mexico, Puerto Rico, the Carribean and Canada. Dorothy also enjoyed crafts and gambling. She stated, " She never came home broke and never came home a millionaire either." Memorial contributions are suggested to the Morley Fire Department or to VFW #1231 Ladies Auxillary.
