Russell- Elevene Elizabeth “Ellie” Corbine, 86, of County Route 24, Russell died Thursday, November 10, 2022 at her home while under the care of her loving family. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 13 from 1-3 PM and 6-8 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton. Additional off-street parking is available behind “LUNA” at 18 Park Street. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, November 14 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, Canton with Rev. Bryan Stitt as celebrant. Burial will follow at the North Russell Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to The Lodge at Dreaming Tree Ranch, 185 Wilkinson Road, Potsdam, NY 13676. Ellie was born May 21, 1936 on the family farm off of County Route 21 in the town of Canton. She was a daughter of the late Burton John Bessette and Nora Ellen (Warren) Bessette and attended Crane School, a one-room school house (across from the farm) until grade 7, she then attended Canton Central School. On October 9, 1965 she married her beloved Donald Wayne “Jake” Corbine in St. Mary’s Church, Canton. The couple were married 55 years. Jake passed September 9, 2021. Ellie’s main career was being a loving wife and mother, however, she did work at various places including The Cascade, Brown’s Dairy, Billy’s Restaurant and VFW Post #1231, Canton for 18 years as bar steward. She is survived by her loving children Joseph Besette, Donald W. (Shelly) Corbine, Jr., Dwayne A. (Tami LaRose) Corbine and Beth (Harold) Gero; sister Noreen Bessette Sheridan; eight grandchildren Jacob and Paige Corbine, Cassidy Mercer, Cheyenne Jungen, Carissa Corbine, Duane and Michael Clookey and Danielle Peterson; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband “Jake”; five brothers Nelson, Reardon, Burton, Gerald and Warren; a sister Anne Scott; and step-daughter Patty Corbine. In her youth Ellie was active in the St. Paul’s Catholic church in Pyrites where she was baptized, had her First Communion. She was also a member of St. Paul’s Altar Society. She later joined St. Mary’s Church in Canton where she had her Confirmation and attended when able. Ellie was an active member of VFW #1231 Auxiliary for many years where her husband Jake was a Life Member and served as Commander. Ellie enjoyed precious time spent with all her family at all of their events and outings. Many memories were made at the Camp in Donnerville, Gulf Brook and trout fishing at Stone Dam. She liked to go hunting and fishing, baking cakes, cookies and donuts and was a huge Yankees fan. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.lawrencefuneralhome.org
