Rensselaer Falls, NY— Stanley George Planty, 82, of Rensselaer Falls, died Thursday, March 3, 2016 at United Helpers Riverledge, Ogdensburg after a brief stay. His funeral service will be held Saturday, March 5th at 11:15 am at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 21 Park Street, Canton with Pastor Tom Nichols officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9-11 am. Stanley was born August 19, 1933, in Canton, NY. He was a son of the late Channy E. & Alice (Taylor) Planty. He was a graduate of Canton High School and later from Oswego State Teacher’s College. He was a veteran of the US Army serving as a mechanic stationed in Turkey from 1953-1955. Stanley was married first to the late, Joyce B. Swartzfigure whom he married in Rensselaer Falls; second he married Judith Ann Poor in Ogdensburg and third was the late Mary Rhoda Wood, whom he married in Potsdam. Surviving are his three daughters, Christine B. Richardson and husband Lloyd of Heuvelton, Colleen Alice Kirby and husband Scott of Millersville, PA and Charleen Ann Bates and husband Adrian of Canton; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Amy Planty of Canton and Sally Wells of Winthrop; one brother, Avery Planty of NC. Also surviving are eight step-children from previous marriages. He was predeceased by his brothers, Maynard in 2016 and Ceylon in 2007 and also by a step-son. Stanley had been involved in the automotive trade nearly all his life. He owned a garage in Rensselaer Falls; worked for Zebriski Motors in Ogdensburg and retired from St. Lawrence Boces, Seaway Area Tech in Norwood, where he taught automotive to high school children and adults. He also enjoyed building wooden furniture, playing the guitar and the fiddle and reading Louis Lemour western stories. He and his wife operated a campground, for a time, called the Robin’s Nest in Florida. Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley or to the Rensselaer Falls Fire Department.
