Obituary of Bethany Clarine Fisk Manchester

Bethany C. Manchester, 89, Canton

December 6, 1933 – April 12, 2023

Beth Manchester, 89, formerly of Cleaveland Ave, Canton, left this earth peacefully on April 12, 2023 at St. Ann’s Home, Rochester, NY where she was a resident since November 2022.

Beth was born December 6, 1933 in Gouverneur, daughter of Jason and Verna (Becker) Fisk. She graduated from Gouverneur High School and St. Lawrence State Hospital School of Nursing. On July 31, 1954, she married Ralph Manchester at the Gouverneur United Methodist Church.  Ralph and Beth celebrated 57 years prior to Ralph’s passing in 2012. Beth was employed by Gouverneur Hospital, Canton Hospital and Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Her career as an Obstetrics Nurse gave her great joy, caring for moms and delivering babies until December 1995.

She was a faithful member of Empire Hermon Chapter O.E.S 68 and the Canton United Methodist Church.  Beth enjoyed gardening, painting, quilting, daily crosswords, bird-watching, cooking and creating delicious pies and donuts. Beth loved dogs and enjoyed a special bond with her Golden Retriever, Honey.  

Beth is survived by her children: Debra (Blaine) Longnecker , Diane (Tom) Stofer and Paula Manchester ;  a sister Eloise (Ronald) Miller; seven grandchildren: Emily (Brent) Kiszka, Daniel Longnecker, Douglas, Garrett and Ethan (Allan) Stofer,  Karen (Jeff) Gould and Bradley Gentile;  great-grandchildren: Collin and Kate Kiszka; and International Exchange daughter, Chavel  (Bob) Moore; sister-in-laws: Geraline Fisk and Fern Manchester; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents; husband, Ralph; brothers: Basil and Roger Fisk and several extended family members.  

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 21^st at 1:00 P.M. at the Canton United Methodist Church with Pastor Brett Johnson officiating and burial immediately following at Hermon Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canton United Methodist Church or local Hospice.
