Marylou Scott, 78, of Patridge Knoll, formerly of Canterbury Lane, Canton, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Fletcher-Allen Health Care. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 26 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Canton with Rev. Michael P. Catanzaro. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Lawrence Funeral Home, Canton. Marylou was born July 17, 1935, in Little Falls, New York, a daughter of Evelyn Viskup and James I Trask. She graduated Little Falls High in 1953 and furthered her education at Crane School of Music, receiving her Bachelor's degree in 1957 and her Master's in 1960. Marylou later became a teacher of music starting at Gouverneur (28 yrs), Indian River (8 yrs) and she retired from Crane (8 yrs). She also worked summers at New England Music Camp in Sydney, ME for nearly 40 years. Marylou was very active in New York State School Music Assoc (NYSSMA), where she was an adjudicator at the State level, and at Music Educators National Conference(MENC). In 1980 she married Harold Scott in Gouverneur. Harold died in 1996. A previous marriage to Charles W. Johnson ended in divorce. Surviving are her daughter, Kristen Johnson of Brownville; a son, Erik Johnson of Canton; three grandchildren, Mark and Julia Harrienger of Brownville and Andrew Johnson of Canton; a brother, Dr. John Viskup of Vergennes, VT. Marylou was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Canton, where she played the organ. In addition to concerts and music, she was fond of Yankees baseball, listening to opera and especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sitting on the rocks, watching and listening to the waves at Pemaquid Point in Maine. It was there, where she met Paul Newman while he was filming "Message in the Bottle". In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions to the New England Music Camp in Sydney, ME or to the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam.
