June Elizabeth Latimer, 89, of County Route 14, Canton, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday morning, December 6, 2023.

June Hewitt was born on May 31, 1934 in Pierrepont, New York.  She was the eldest daughter of Glenn and Mabel Vaughn Hewitt.  She is survived by her four sisters, Charlotte Mousaw, Sharon Jenks and spouse Charles Jenks, Diana Carrier and spouse Richard Carrier, and Donna Jenks and spouse Michael Jenks.  Predeceased are her husband Glenn Latimer, great granddaughter Ellie Rose Greene, brother Richard Hewitt, and brother-in-law Ralph Grange and Lawrence Mousaw.

June married Glenn “Bud” Latimer on July 1, 1972, in the Colton Methodist Church.  June and Bud were married for over 48 years, and made their home in Bucks Bridge.  Surviving June is daughter Darlene Latimer, step-son James Latimer and spouse Diane Griffin-Latimer; step-son  Joseph Latimer and spouse Diane Latimer; grandchildren Sara Greene and spouse Michael McManus; Zachary Greene and spouse Julie Greene; Philip Latimer and spouse Kirstin Latimer; Jonathan Latimer and spouse Stefanie Latimer;  Christina Latimer, Joseph Latimer, Rachel Latimer, Robert Latimer, Meggie Rodriguez Machigua and spouse Fernando Machigua; and great grandchildren Connor McManus, Emma June McManus, Jack McManus, Max McManus, Avery Greene and  Aubree Latimer.

June graduated from Colton-Pierrepont Central School in 1953. June held many jobs that included housekeeping and child care when she was young. Later she began work as a secretary and worked for the director of the Cornell University New York State Mastitis Laboratory in Canton, NY and spent the rest of her career there, retiring after 25 years.  

June enjoyed housekeeping, cooking, canning, and gardening, especially growing her red roses.  She enjoyed traveling each winter to see family and friends in California and Hawaii.  June also liked to fish and loved their fishing trips to Canada.  June was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend and she loved life.

June was a member of the United Church of Madrid, and previously the Buck’s Bridge Church, where she worked diligently to help maintain the landmark building. She was a long time member of The Order of the Eastern Stars and Canton Garden Club. 

A memorial luncheon will be held for family and friends at 2:00 PM on July 28, 2024 at the Pierrepont Fire Hall, 62 Old County Road, Canton, New York 13617.
