Obituary of Isis Melhado

Canton, NY-

Isis Melhado, 98, of Canton died peacefully at her home while in the company of her family.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date in the spring/ summer with a date and time to be announced.  Her burial was held privately.

Isis was born November 12, 1925, in Fountain Hill Borough, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania and was a daughter of the late Vernon K. and Mary (Snyder) Melhado.

She grew up in Bethlehem, PA on the Green Pond Farm.  She later moved to the North Country in 1974 first to Rossie, DeKalb and then to her property in Canton that she affectionately called “Wild Meadows”.

Isis was talented in the art of weaving and spinning.  She would display her wares in TAUNY in the Village of Canton.  She also had many community friends that she taught and visited with.

She is survived by her son Ben (Theresa) Hoffacker of Santa Fe, NM.  She is also survived by her grandchildren Charles Beau (Becca) Hoffacker, Carly Rae (Matthew) Harriss, Kelly (Steven) Gonzales, Benjamin (Antoinette) Hoffacker, IV; great-grandchildren Aurora and Declan Harriss, Lilliana, Asahand Rio Gonzales, Ethan and Alma Hoffacker.

She was predeceased by a daughter Sandra Hoffacker and a son Charles Hoffacker in 2022.

Isis will be remembered for her passion for weaving, her love of her horses, oxen, her dogs and cats, her chickens, donkeys, and her numerous friends. 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
