Eleanor Ada Storie, 94, of State Hwy 310, Canton died April 9, 2016 at Highland Nursing Home, Massena, where she had been a resident since March.
A memorial graveside will be held in Evergreen Cemetery at a date to be announced. Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton is handling arrangements.
Eleanor was born November 20, 1921 in Canton, a daughter of the late, Charles R. & Mildred Tuck Stacy. She graduated Canton High School in 1938 and later attended the Watertown School of Commerce. She also received training through IBM in Syracuse.
On April 30, 1956, she married Lester Storie in Gouverneur. Lester died in September of 1987. A previous marriage to Arnold Cronk, which took place on June 20, 1946, was later dissolved.
Eleanor was a farmer's wife, assisting in the day to day tasks of running the family dairy farm on the Eddy-Pyrites Road.
Surviving are her her son, Wayne F. Cronk; her daughter, Dixie Storie; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one great great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Lester, she was predeceased by an infant son, Thomas; two grandchildren, Scott Cronk and William Delorme; two sisters, Bernice Powles and Grace Wright and two brothers, Maurice and Clarence Stacy.
Her family was part of the Pioneer Family in the early 1800's that settled in DeKalb Junction with Judge Cooper of Cooperstown, NY. This stirred her interest in genealogy and encouraged her to visit people, as well as, her writing and receiving letters in reference to the Pioneer Families.
Eleanor was also a member of the DeKalb Junction Historical Society and a member of Canton Senior Citizens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are preferred to Canton Fire & Rescue, 77 Riverside Drive, Canton, Ny 13617.
