Canton, NY-

Linda J. Mattice, 82, of Spears Street, Canton passed away peacefully in the company of her loving family on Friday, April 12, 2024 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, April 16 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton.  Her funeral mass will immediately follow with Fr. Martin Wendell as celebrant.  Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Canton.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Potsdam Humane Society, 17 Madrid Avenue, Potsdam, NY 13676.

Linda was born the daughter of the late Roy and Hilda (Losey) Page on January 12, 1942 in Massena, NY.  She graduated Massena Central High School in 1959 and furthered her education at the Alice Mastic Business School in Massena in 1961.

On August 27, 1966 she married Robert “Bob” J. Mattice in the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Massena.  Bob passed on January 28, 2019.

Linda began working as a secretary for St. Lawrence University in 1984, before retiring in 2000.  Previously she was a secretary at Canton A.T.C. (SUNY) for seven years.

Surviving her are her two children Kelly (Tom) Finnerty of Canton and James (Shannon) Mattice of Canton.  She will also be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: Jacob Mattice, Carly Mattice, Jack Finnerty, Molly Finnerty and Elizabeth Finnerty, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Linda was predeceased by her husband Robert and four brothers Roy, William, Richard, and Robert.

She was a recent communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church.  Being active in her community, she also served as President and board member of Planned Parenthood for a number of years as well as serving on the St. Lawrence County Planning Board.

Linda enjoyed coffee dates with her Saturday morning breakfast group at the Cascade and Dunkin Donuts, and the companionship of her beloved dogs Chloe and Zoe.  There was nothing that Linda loved more than spending time with her family, be it sunny days at the family camp at Higley, ice rinks watching her grandsons play hockey or her granddaughters ice skate, Sunday dinners, or the family vacations to warmer climates, she relished it all. Gramma was often the main character of the family vacation blog, fondly known as the Hot Mess Express, which she delighted in.  She was one of a kind and will truly be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.
