Obituary of Anne S. Goetze
Anne S. Goetze, 83, of Edgewater, Florida passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024 in Jacksonville, Florida. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 8th from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the SUNY Canton Alumni House, 8 Stillman Drive, Canton, New York.
Anne is survived by her husband of 62 years, John A.; sons, John K. (Maureen) Goetze of Lebanon, PA and Robert (Constance) Goetze of Jacksonville, FL; her adored grandchildren, Christopher Goetze, Lindsey (Andrew) Schweiker, Jessica Goetze and John P. Goetze, along with several sisters-in laws, nieces and nephews.
Anne was born in Yonkers, NY. She was the daughter of the late Carl F. and Margaret (Cameron) Staib. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles F. Staib. Anne graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1958 and continued her life-long desire to become a Registered Nurse, attending St. Luke’s School of Nursing, graduating on September 7, 1961.
While attending high school, she met her husband. They were married on September 9, 1961. Anne began her nursing career at SUNY Oswego as the College Infirmary Nurse, while her husband attended SUNY Oswego. Upon John’s graduation, they relocated to Canton, NY where Anne continued her nursing career.
During her career, she was employed as a nurse at Oswego City Hospital, St. Lawrence University, Canton-Potsdam Hospital, coordinator for the WIC Program and as Director of Nursing at Moongate Nursing Home. Anne was also employed as a staff nurse at Ogdensburg and River View Correctional Facilities, retiring in 1993.
Aside from her nursing career, Anne was also a Pack Master and Den Mother in Cub Scouts, exempt member of the Canton Fire Department, a member of the Canton ATC Women’s Club and St. Lawrence Golf and Country Club.
Anne is a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church on the Park in Canton.
Spending time with family and friends on the water at Higley Flow, creating many memories over the years, brought Anne some of her greatest joys. She also enjoyed painting and golfing.
In her retirement, Anne volunteered at the Bert Fish Hospital Emergency Room and also at the Edgewater Animal Shelter where she adopted her last cat “Chubby”.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of one’s choice.
