Obituary of Donna Clarke Latray

Donna Clarke Latray, 72, of Washington Street, Ogdensburg died peacefully under the loving care of her family and Hospice on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

Lawrence Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Canton has been entrusted with her care and arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Lawrence County Cancer Fund or to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

Donna was born a daughter to the late Byron Palmer Clarke and Evagene Loretta (Dunning) Clarke on November 23, 1951 in Potsdam, NY.  She graduated Knox Memorial in Russell in 1969 and attended SUNY Canton.

On September 1, 1973 she married John R. Latray in Hermon, NY with Justice of the Peace Bernie Reed as celebrant.  The couple were married nearly 51 years.

Donna retired as an account clerk for St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services, Canton after 20 years of service.

She is survived by her husband John Latray of Ogdensburg; her daughter Dawn Latray and companion Edward Phillips of Canton; four grandchildren Jonathon Mitchell, Krystalyn Latray, Kasondra Baker and Sahara Baker; a brother Thomas (Nettie) Clarke of Russell; a sister Virginia “Ginny” (Fred) Butterfield; numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews; a special nephew Warren Franklin and special nieces Diane Bailey and Kelly Hull; sisters-in-law Bonnie (Joe) Allen of DeKalb and Nina Plaistaid of Hermon; and her best friend of 65 years Karen Woodrow Pike of Russell.

She was predeceased by five siblings William Clarke, Betty Hull, Suzie Briggs, Jesse June Franklin and Calvin Clarke.

Donna enjoyed knitting, crocheting and games on her phone.  Donna was talented with wood-working as well.  She even built an addition on her trailer.  Camping on Black Lake was very meaningful to Donna and she thoroughly enjoyed her Bird’s Nest Family.
