I first met Mary Jo on the phone when she called about campaigning for the Heart Charity. I thought I would like to meet this person and eventually did. I found out that horses were important and since I had them, we became riding friends and rode my Canton farm, the Adirondacks and Montana where I live now. Yes, she was always ready to do an adventure. I will miss calling her and finding out the news of Canton. My sons, my Fresh Air boy and I were often invited to come to her camp for hot dogs. Our dog Pipollo loved Mary Jo.

On behalf of everyone at Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH), we send our deepest and sincerest condolences to Mary Jo’s family. She was an upbeat, engaged, and long-time friend and AARCH family member and we will miss seeing her smile at tours and events. We will remember her with profound fondness as a fierce friend and fellow preservationist.

Mary Jo,
You've left me so many delightful memories. I will miss: the laughter when our adventures led us astray; the sewing of all the things required; canoeing, hiking, skiing in all types of weather; lunch with pie; SLU and ARCH programs with you by my side; all the roaming down every road we had never traveled, all of this and more. An enthusiastic partner in any and all types of crime. When asked if you were free to play, never, not once, did you say no. We grabbed our necessities and off we went. Where will I find anyone who will be so eager to play at a moments notice, again?
I miss you already. Hang out a sign, so I don't miss you in the future and our adventures will continue. Love, Randy

A spent a number of years staying at her bed/breakfast while working in the area. the guests were always interesting, the conversation lively, the Christmas tree lights always malfunctioning, the dinners with Tony and Mary Scalise were great, and the sneaky little black cat Lopi who slept at the foot of my bed on occasion was always a welcome addition to the adventure. She was quite the person and quite the character in an unequivocally good way. I have no doubt she will be remembered fondly by so many.

Dear Family,
I remember Mary Jo from my time teaching at the McKenney Middle School during he 1970's and 1980's while she was teaching reading. She always stood her ground with her procedures and discipline. I always enjoyed and appreciated her enthusiasm and taking the time to chat. Fond memories.

What an impressive person. My memories of Mary are many…..on the rooftop of the green boathouse, waving to everyone or her paddling around in her red canoe, enjoying Sylvia’s calm waters and warm sun. I had a wonderful conversation with her about 5 years ago as she sat in the bottom of her canoe. We reminisced of younger days on the lake, swimming lessons, sail boat races and of course…..picking a camp to play poker with our coffee cans or leather pouches full of change or maybe a single green back or two.
Yea, Mary will always be part of my fond memories of the lake.
She will be sadly missed.
